How to Obtain MATLABMATLAB for Windows and UNIX is available via one-year lease to Northwestern faculty and staff. The NAG Foundation Toolbox for MATLAB is administered in a similar manner: it must be installed separately from different media, after MATLAB is installed. Follow these steps:
System Requirements: http://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab/requirements.shtml Fees, policies and procedures for obtaining a MATLAB license vary among the administrative units. To obtain the license codes, contact the MATLAB license administrator for your College or School.
If you are affiliated with the following schools, please contact them directly to obtain a MATLAB license for your installation: Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences: see Obtaining Matlab from WCAS. McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science: see the McCormick MATLAB page. Kellogg School of Management: see the Kellogg MATLAB page. Feinberg School of Medicine: Warren Kibbe. Others: NU Academic Technologies: mailto:matlab@northwestern.edu. The MATLAB license expires annually. Contact your MATLAB administrator to renew your license. The MathWorks has a student edition, which is sold through bookstores or from the vendor: http://www.mathworks.com/products/studentversion.
Acquire the files you need to install MATLAB from the MathWorks Downloads page. You must create your own MathWorks account (see below for important details) to use the MathWorks Downloads facility. You can only install toolboxes for which we are licensed. Some toolboxes are system-specific, and cannot be installed on other operating systems. Choose the link to System Requirements (above) to list available toolboxes for your operating system.
Install MATLAB, following the relevant MathWorks Installation Guide. Concurrent License Do not install the FLEXlm License Manager under the Concurrent License. You will be using your network connection to access the MATLAB license server managed centrally for the university. Windows: perform the Network Installation Procedure, and Install MATLAB on a Client System. Mac OS X: use the Installation Guide for UNIX (not Mac OS X), and follow the instructions to Install MATLAB on a Client System. See Post Installation Note below. Linux and UNIX: use the Installation Guide for UNIX and follow the instructions to Install MATLAB on a Client System. See Post Installation Note (next). Post Installation Note for Mac OS X, Linux and UNIX Installations: Use a text editor on the installed license.dat file, $MATLAB_ROOT/etc/license.dat (where $MATLAB_ROOT is the symbolic notation for the root of the MATLAB installation tree), and remove ALL of the FEATURE lines. Then add one line: USE_SERVER This tells your installation of MATLAB to use the license manager's FEATURE codes, which will change occasionally. If you do not perform this procedure, your installation will stop working when the license manager's codes change. Firewall Information: Your firewall must permit two-way access to TWO TCP ports: matlab.it.northwestern.edu 27000 matlab.it.northwestern.edu 1970 Group License Windows: perform the Standard Installation Procedure. Mac OS X: install MATLAB and the FLEXlm license manager on a stand-alone workstation. Linux and UNIX: install MATLAB and the FLEXlm license manager on a server.
Create your MathWorks Account to enable access to network downloads and updates. Then choose "Associate Me with a License" under the "My License" section. Find your license number either by running MATLAB and typing "ver" from its command line or by looking at the license file you obtained from your MATLAB administrator. You must use your NU alias@northwestern.edu email address when you create your MathWorks account. If your email address is not accepted by the web form, please send email to bef@northwestern.edu and ask for assistance.
